Bridge fishing for sharks in florida
I said I had questions to ask, here is my first. I see from lots of Fla photos that a lot of fishing is done from bridges....such as the photo below.
So my questions:
1. Are you basically just dropping / casting baits out from these bridges?
2. When you get hooked into a good sized shark.....how do you land release from these bridges?

Whats up dog, glad to see you took a look at the site.To answer your question, when you bridge fish you must baloon out your bait with the current. As for releaseing the shark you have to choices, walk him down to the end of the bridge witch can be a mile or so walk and jump down on the rocks and set him free,or just cut the line from the bridge after the shark has given in.
I'm going to continue the question....what is your hookup ratio on these floated baits? I'm assuming you use J's vs Circles.....do you see most of your hookups coming from swallowed baits or "chomped" baits where the shark gets hooked on the side of the mouth?
I got to see some pictures of SM42's J hook leader....do most of you use a leader setup like this?

Most of the guys in the shark club are old school and use j hooks like sm42, it's the way we've always done things.I respect anyone who chooses to use circle hooks but i fish as if at any moment i could hook a massive shark and i want only the best and strongest when that moment arrives therefore i prefer the j hook in double or triple strength,,,i've seen alot of inferior hooks staightened out in my times. We have a pretty good hookup ratio on floated out baits,,,,just remember it depends on time of the year, weather, bait in the area ,and so forth. We here in Florida are blessed with some of the sharkiest waters in the world and we take advantage of that and try to get out and fish as much as possible ,,,that being one of the keys to our continued success.

We've had a few guys try out the floating baits especially because of the seaweed we are constantly dealing with....rigging them with kites keeps the line off of the water and we are able to fish even through the roughest of seaweed conditions that way....while I have never personally tried it, I have heard of multiple runs on floated baits but not too many hookups that's why I ask.
I will agree with you on the strength of J hooks....I can definitely see a circle straightening out before a J hook does.

The thing with floating baits is after you reach your spot you pop the balloon by yanking the line nice and hard or wait till the sewing string breaks away.Or some guys use the old life saver trick and wait till it melts away.I always use J hooks like the old school guys,I have learned every thing i know from will who is my teacher and has been a wealth of knowalge and a great pleasure to fish with.
