i fish my 9/0 with 80lb mono. if its not old or all frayed up keep it. as for a rod a 50-80 lb class 8ft would be nice. mine is 6'6 and i like it. contact joe on here he can shed some light on a rod for it and build a custom one to your specs. he has built my rods for me and they are great.

If I remember correct, my 9/0 held 480 yards of 80. That may be fine for most smaller sharks. But you need more capacity if you want to target bigger sharks. Braid under with 80 topshop. But if the line is in good shape, I'd fish it until it got frayed up or got spooled.

yea braid with a 80lb top shop would be great but not every one has money for braid. you could go with 50lb since a 9/0 is really a 50lb class reel but i like 80lb. im gonna spool mine with 10lb mono sound like a good idea?

I always put new line on all reels no matter if it came with some or not.

Wouldn't you be mad as hell if 500 yards got striped off just to see the end of the untied line go zipping out into the dark night .

MANY things could be wrong with that line frays tangles knots , The point is you just don't know wtf someone else did.
So if you can see what i mean then ride down to the store :?

I have 500yrds of 100powerpro. would prefer to use powerpro I have it on all my poles and its never failed me. but not sure if that would be to heavy of line on a 9/0

100lb power pro is definitely not gonna be to heavy. Mono is heavier than braid.

100 lb powerpro tied to 80 lb mono is a great setup for a 9/0. I use this exact same set up for my 6/0s, I just put on a bunch of braid and leave room for a 100 yard topshot of mono. Do the same thing with a 9/0 and I think you'll be surprised the size of sharks you can catch on it.

Up to you, I like the idea of having just mono out when your bait is put out. For me, about 200 yards is what I had on mine. If you like to drop deeper, more mono.

Other's might have other opinions, this has worked for me.

i dont have the money for braid but like u said, havign teh mono in the speel when that shark hits i believe is better because when u set ur not putting stess on ur line to line know, i notcied the #1 killer of a knot is a constant jerking motion, thats also y i use a bimini on anything less than 60lb for sharkin

Just an average fisherman.
