There are challenges because it's difficult to leader a shark to the boat with our normal set ups (meaning the long shock leaders). Shorter rod allows for better control next to the boat.

Two different types of fishing. I started out only fishing off my boat and you do allot of stuff differently.

First off is location, you have more of a variety off the boat seeing as you can just change location if no action comes into play. I like either fishing deep drop offs or drifting passes. If you find the right location i would highly recommend using chum. what i always did with my cousin is we would net about 100lbs of mullet and just chunk them or blast them with the 12 gauge :D

Another thing you want to consider is tackle, on a boat you can get awat with much much smaller tackle so i would recommend a reel with a lower capacity and higher drag. (i use a avet 50 narrow TRX filled to the top with 200lb jb)

For leaders you dont need any shock mono and i would really advise cable as its much easier to leader the fish when close. I always used 10ft of 660 afw cable to a single or double hooked rig. i would usually float one bait and free line the other.
