im looking into buying a leverdrag reel. i have heard and seen lots of good things with the avet reels . and im trying to decide between the trx50w and the 80w. Is it better to have that 100+ lb drag? or is it better to have the capacity with the 80w. im really split down the middle. have any input please post it. thanks :)

Having line capacity is more important..my opinion! 30lbs of drag is hard to handle. More than that is overkill and if u fish to completely stop the fish and don't have any fun fighting the fish... have u held on to a rod with 30lbs of drag??? I have and it is a struggle unless u fish on a bridge and use the rail to help out.. I am not a small guy by any means...just something for u to think abt..good possiblity of gettin hurt as well...

Go for capacity. Big shark is gonna run no matter what you pull on him.

Nobody will agree with me because as of yet - is unknown to many many people, but if you want both worlds for $100 more, get Okuma Makaira 80w. You have the yardage & a true 103lbs drag at full.
Avets are good, but yet - they don't satisfy the 100lbs and 80w class buyers.
That's TRX and EX combined together for $100 more. Not to mention 5 years free parts free shipping warranty. Hard to beat.

Watch this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=47hc-Hk8XeU
If you guys know this guy, then you know - there is no BS there.

P.S. The only time i would see anyone using 100lbs drag would be from a pier or bridge where they would use the railings. I used 55lbs using the railings and was very easy, but when on the beach - good luck.

Boghy nice write up those reels, I'm liking the 5 yr warranty. The only down size is that there not American made like the avetts. I hate sending my money over seas, but if its a superior product I just might.

Well it's not made in china.. so.. that should tell you something.

P.S. How many people DO NOT BUY IPHONE because its made in china, but designed in USA? Should i mention that this reel model series follow the same path? I don't think its necessary to do so.
Don't get me wrong, i love Avets, the TRX is awesome reel, the HX raptor the same, BUT - one brand does not cover, usually, the entire spectrum of fishing reels market share. That's when the OTHER guys - comes in. No reel brand is good for all. Period! The best fishermen is the one who knows what reel fits his/her purpose the best in his/her fishing style - when required - no matter what brand that is.

T-rex drags are over kill... go with the 80w, there are not many that can even fish its drag of 60lb.

Like Boghy said the only way you will ever use a T-rex is with the aid of a rail/gunnel.
