in the last 3 weeks we have put 3 bull sharks on the deck at redington long pier and a buddy lost a monster last night well over 9ft straight down..we put a 7ft3inch bull a 8ft bull and a 7ft bull on the deck along with the well over 9ft bull that pulled hooks straight down..so i walk out there tonight to hangout with a couple buddys that were fishing and theres a new sign up that says shark fisherman must buy annual pass to sharkfish on the pier, so that means we have to pay 800bucs to fish the pier the one or 2 nights a week we fish they claim that they are in hard times and need all the money they can get so instead of getting the money we paid to fish when we did they will get nothing now becuz we refuse to pay 800bucs to fish a pier that we have fished for the last 10 years its absolutely rediculous   :?:

That hardly seems fair. Is this a privately built and operated pier?

that is crazy. its amazing what people will try to do for money. it will be there loss though, that kind of pier management will run everyone else off as well. its only a mater of time.

hey st.petesharker,

are there any beaches that you can fish at night around that pier?

if there are, i'm willing to go and fish those beaches if the pier is closed.

we can fish indianrocks beach right by indianrocks tackle which is about 3 miles north and theres another beach about 2 miles south.. all the rest of the beach is covered in swim buoys..ive heard through a couple people and a couple people that work for redington shores that the pier is in forclosure so we may see a takeover in the near future and hopefully someone that will run it right.. and yes it is a privately owned pier run by 2 arabians...and no brad im not gona stop fishing the pier ive fished since i was 7 years old, caught my first tarpon,kingfish.. alot of firsts off the pier. i guess a bunch of us are gona try to get together and either talk them into letting us give them money and to let the 3 of us fish or were just gona wait and see what happens. but for now it just means im going to the keys everyweekend or atleast everyother to fish

That's absolutely rediculous, 800 dollars to fish of a pier, did I read that correctly or am I just up way to late? I've never fished from the long pier so I don't have an opinion other than what I've heard. As far as beaches go, Indian rocks is okay, we fish between 6th and 9th ave and we've had okay luck there. The only problem is it's always crowded. There is a little beach I have been wanting to try on St. Pete beach on Pass-a-grille just south of the Don Czar.

You know Doug,as I stated before..I tried to get my son involved in the "shark club" that fishes Redington & when I was quoted $180 per year to fish one night per week & pay an additional $15 just to get on the pier...Then come to find out that my son cant join because he's underage..but there's teens running around with the club with 12 & 14/0's??? Who makes these rules?? Dont get me wrong, a couple of the guys out there are cool & we go back many many years to a pier that stood around 3 miles north that had its shit together before it blew down in 85. Granted,Redington has been under new ownership for quite awhile now & in my opinion has gone nowhere but down hill due to the new money hungry owners/ownership. There are other ways to promote business & raise money to where you dont penalize the regulars & All I have to say is that I wouldn't piss on that pier to save it if it was a blaze in front of me & the owners were out on the end!! but anyways, let the guys out there know that there is a club out here that does have their shit together, will treat them like family, can fish anywhere/anytime & that strive to promote this sport to all rather than segregate due to age, gear, money ect. ;)

yeah its a bunch of bs the owners are pulling out there.. and it is 800 per person if it was a group then hell we would pay it but per person that is rediculous!!! that beach in passagrille is 5 mins from my house.. it is ok but you need heavy heavy weight and the boat traffic is all night long..im gona start fishing way back in the bay here soon with all the weather weve had and the mass amounts of mullet everywhere and stingrays it has been pretty good lots of lemons and some really nice bulls up in the bay..ill be down in the keys the 30th through the 5th if anyone wants to get together and put some baits out

so whats the next step here? you guys in the shark club have paid your dues to become "members" & now have to come up with another $800 per person to shark a pier thats falling apart & going belly up...if you guys are not going to produce additional funds to continue fishing there, where is the club going to go?? To my understanding, when your dues are collected they go towards the use of the boat & davit & reserve your spot on the rail when you shark...do you get your money back now?
