am i ready?
hey everyone, I have most of my new shark fishing gear picked out. I need to know if this is the wright gear for the job. I will be fishing mainly for 6'-9' sharks and I will be making 300-500 yard drops. here is the stuff I have picked out so far : 1. 50w reel 2. 600yds of 80lb tufline braid 3. 300yds of 80lb mono 4. 80-130lb 5'6'' rod 5. aftco maxforce bucket harness . so that's it for now, does anyone have any recommendations on what I have listed so far?
just to see how it performs I am going to get a okiaya 50w. I have read a different thread about them and the guy got them and said they work great he also landed two makos on them. I found a site that calculates line capacity and it said this reel can hold 2000yds of 100lb power pro so I am going to put 1000yds of power pro on. then it should hold about 400yds of 80lb mono topshot. the reason i am going with capacity over strength is because I only weigh 100lbs so I mite not be able to put as much drag on the fish.

never underestimate yourself! My buddy Andy weights about 85
lbs soaking wet and can turn some really nice fish in their tracks. We stick to 200# line so we dont pop it but for 50w 130lb is perfect for about everything. you can still land some monster fish on that setup
Good luck and hope you run in to that reason to get a bigger reel!
To answer your question of are you ready I would say yes. Anyone willing to invest into this kind of fun the way you did is ready. Just if you are just starting out please go with someone that has experience to help you out. With the gear you picked out it seems to me you have some experience in this matter. The big question now is "When are you going to break in your new equipment" and please post pic of your first shark on it.
