A few questions

Hi, guys my name is James. I live in Cape Coral, Florida and I have a few questions. My family and a few friends want to come down and check out the fishing around the 7 mile bridge. I have heard a lot of awesome things about the bridge and the fishing. I am mainly going after sharks but I am not picky I will take whatever the bridge gives me. But I have a few questions I would like answered before I head down there. The first one is can you drive on the bridge? So I do not have to walk all my gear down there. Can you camp out on the bridge? I have seen a few pictures and it does not seem like there is a lot of room but maybe enough room for a small tent, if you know how wide it is. How far above the water is the bridge? I needed to know if I need to bring different gear. What bridge is the best to fish on, and where is the best place? I would really appreciate if you took some time out of your schedule to answers my questions, because it would be awesome to fish there. Thank you very much for all your time.

Hi James,

You can only fish from the south end of the bridge. You cannot drive on the bridge. They have rebuilt a short portion of the old bridge at the south end for use as a fishing pier. You will not be able to go very far out. It's not that high over the water, I guess maybe 10-12 ft. You probably could put up a small 2 man tent for overnight, but please don't use nails. They are hell on people who like to wear sandals or go barefooted. I hope that you have fun & good luck on your trip to the Keys!

The fishing bridge on the south end of 7 Mile goes out about 3/4 of a mile. Like fishergirl said, you can't drive, so you'll want a cart to take your stuff out. I'd highly recomend you pick your spot out in daylight, otherwise you might be fishing all night in 10" of water. Technically I don't think you are supposed to camp, but I do it all the time and haven't had a problem, just leave a path so people can get by. Be careful if everyone goes to sleep that your gear doesn't walk off on you.
