A cool penn Senator pawn shop find
Hi all, today the weather here in Naples is on the poor side so I decided to go "Penn senator" hunting at my local pawn shops. Of course I was looking for 10, 12, 14 and 16/0s. At one particular pawn shop I seen in a case a Penn box that said Penn Senator 1/0. I asked to look at it.
Its a original 1/0 "VERY TINY" with a green bakelite handle and original box. They had a tag of 100 on it. I wasn't sure if that was good, excellent or bad pricing. I went to lunch and got on my cell and read through some Alan Tani stuff about the old 1/0s. As to my surprise they can fetch upwards of 200+ with original box. Mine has never seen water. Not one tiny little flaw anywhere on it. I went back and offered 75 they said no. So I started throwing a tantrum in the store and started screaming more cowbell please "that's a joke" and bartered for awhile. I got to be friends with the manager and he said ill let you have it at cost. I walked out the door with the little penn and original box for 45.00
Whats even cooler is I went to my local fishing store and they had old school Dacron still new on a spool. I had them put the original white/greenish colored Dacron on it 30lb and it held 285 yards. I WILL NOT be fishing this I just wanted it for display purpose.
Thanks for reading my find as im sure others out there collect also and its always fun to read stories ![]()
I have found a few great deals at the pawn shops. I have also found that the farther away from the ocean you get the better deals you will find. I wound up getting a penn 4/0 and 6/0 both with rods for 45 dollars, one rod was heavy duty with rollers the other was a piece of trash but still a great deal for the price. The same goes with going to the flea markets.
