A Big Mistake!!MY Opinion

I am upset to see that the 2010 Shorebound Shark Tourney has been postponed or cancelled .The original internet based shorebound shark fishing tournament has been postponed by Tommy because of too much negative publicity on land-based shark fishing within the last months .This was the tournament that inspired me to get involved in the internet,to start the Big Hammer Challenge Shark Tournament and to create this website.I am saddened for a few different reasons but the main one being that I am a proponent of fighting for what you love and feel that the organizers of the Shorebound (whoever they might officially be) should be willing to stand and fight to protect the rights of land-based shark fisherman.I have no ill will towards Tommy or the shorebound tourney although we have had our run-ins on different occasions and we have offered on many occasions to work together to take on the people that would abolish our sport but have been for the most part ignored. After the Delray beach commision vote to ban shark fishing on there beach everyone that represented land-based shark fishing at that moment agreed to unite to defend our rights but it was false no one did anything except for me forming the Shorebound Anglers Alliance. So now when the moment is perfect to come together the shorebound crew chooses to turn tail and hide.BIG MISTAKE!!!!

I know how much hard work it takes to run a shark tournament and maybe Tommy does not have the help he needs this year to pull it off but to say that the Shorebound puts too much negative attention on our sport so we should turn and hide from the media."I DON'T THINK SO!!!!!"It takes true passion for a sport for me to run the Big Hammer Challenge with just the help of my wife and every year i ask myself ''do i want to put myself through this again"but the answer is always a resounding "YES!!!Yes because the land-based shark fisherman really enjoy it and yes because we are Americans and free to love a sport, and live our lives involved in a sport we really care about.Yes because it is part of who we are ,our history ,our progression and above all an opputunity to promote our sport and defend those who practice it in a responsible way. Those that choose to run in the face of opposition need to check themselves there resolve, there passion for the sport or lack thereof, and maybe there manhood as well . In hardship is created great opputunity and the opputunity to defend our sport is being passed up.

I feel bad for the fisherman on boatless who want to fish the Shorebound and are robbed of there chance to fish in a tournament that is the original and symbolic of land-based internet shark fishing.Maybe those that put together the tournament need to value there work more -i for one think it is important regardless of the fighting among the fisherman every year in the tournament ;it is still worth the effort.I also feel for Tommy for not having whatever it is he needs to go forward. We stand willing and ready to help the shark fishing community in any effort that involves promoting and protecting our rights to fish for sharks and will choose to deal with opposition in a different fashion. We wish the Shorebound and it organizers the best of luck but we also know that luck is helped by ACTION and in this case action means adapting a new more aggresive approach to deal with the negative media that is nothing short of a false campaign by a bunch of misinformed locals, wackos and so called conservationist who have nothing better to do then change our American way of life.Thank God for the NRA and others like it that can and will fight to protect the rights of sportsman. We are here and will continue to be here willing to stand for the rights of all fisherman.

I have read a few post about the Shorebound Shark Tourney on other forums and I see it as a loss that can be turned into a winning opportunity. Many anglers are upset about the cancellation of the tournament. I think it can be a way to unite many sharkers by stepping up to the plate and hosting an immediate tournament/event and assisting those who want to unite. I think people are looking for a leader/club to step in and give them what they want/need during these harsh times. I'm sure it would be very difficult to do it on such short notice, however it could be a win/win for everyone.

The "club" - increase awareness of conservation, support the community, increase membership and take a leadership role
Anglers - continue to compete, find new people/teams to fish with, join a community that supports their desires

I really have no experience with Tournaments/Events and I'm sure it would be very difficult to organize, however if it were easy then it would not be worth doing and there would be no reward.
