80w spooling !
Rule of thumb:::: lline should be fished at 1/3 of its rating So fishishing the full 60lb of drag would require approx. 240lb line. Rule of thumb. Many variables to consider.
He means 180.....so 200lb braid with 200mono topshot.
Thats funny, and to think, i was considering math as a major.
Thx

...OR - 25%-33% drag tension from the line used SHOULD be applied from the REAL KNOWN line tension capacity, and NOT THE ADVERTISED one.
Example: if a manufacture rates a line at 100lb, when you actually measure it - that line may brake a little over 100lb OR WAY OVER 100lb. That numbers SHOULD be always taken in consideration, in back of your mind, when the real life situation will push you to play at the limits with your reel's drag.
I have an 80w too, but 80lb braid is no good for that reel. You paid lots of $$$$$ for the drag power, and 80lb will break sooo fast when you hook a big shark and start increasing the drag. I would recommend 500-600 yrds of 200lb braid, then the rest 200lb mono topshot.
good advice above.
when you take all the variables in like spool shrink, guide friction and water drag, using line with a minium of 150lb breaking strength would be needed to use drags set at 50-55lb.
Even then when you get 500 plus yards of line in the water 150lb line can break very easy.
I would recommend 1000 yards of 200lb hollow core braid either JB or Izor then toped off with 130-200 Izor first string mono. or equivalent.
