Does anyone know a 4/0 size level drag type reel that can lift from the ground, by cranking, a 20lb dead weight? It doesn't matter if is one or two speed nor price, what matters is, it can't be bigger then an 4/0 size reel and to dead lift that 20lb dead weight BY TURNING THE HANDLE NOT BY LIFTING UP THE ROD.

Just to clarify - i put an hx raptor on a rod, i tie a 20lb fitness type weight, then put it in lower gear, turn the handle WITHOUT MOVING UP AND DOWN THE ROD, and the weight should lift up, like a crane - correct?

IF the presets are adjusted correctly and you are in a bucket harness with a good plate and the reel is on a rod with enough backbone you can lift over 40lbs with it. I had an HX Raptor and I could lift 45lb dumbbells with it no problem.

Did you had any freespool issues when you did that, or you lost completely your freespool at thous settings?
Also,

...by "lift" you mean cranking the reel's handle and not "lifting up" the rod right? I ask this again just to make the difference between the HX Raptor's drag power and HX Raptor's CRANKING power which are two different worlds. The drag power is rated, like many manufactures do, but the cranking power is not rated by avet nor any manufacture, which is very hard to find out without actually buying a reel and test it out.

cranking power is solely dependant on the power of the individual doing the cranking and the strength of the gear set. when i did mine i was in a harness with the rod and reel clipped in and using a plate - once i got the rod loaded up the weight came off the ground in low gear just fine. this will also show the mark of your rod builder because if the spine of the rod is off center it will show doing this by the rod wanting to pull left or right versus straight up and down. the hx series of raptors are absolute beast and accomplish the task with no side loading of the bearings or loss of free spool. if your going to fish the drags that heavy though i would recommend the hx wide although it is not available with magic cast like the regular hx raptor is. i had the regular raptor with magic cast and it was not only strong but it was a good caster as well. i got rid of it because the standard frame version is a waste for a casting rig because you cant hold that kind of drag with a 10' or longer stick and anything that you could hold it with is not very castable. if you want a super 4/0 sized reel to kayak baits out with the hx wide is the reel to get. if you want a good casting reel with a strong drag then the lx is all you really need because most people cant hold over 20lbs of drag on a 10'-12' rod and thats the drag numbers you get out of an lx.

What do you mean by "standard frame" when you mention in your post that the normal size HX Raptor has issues at high drag? Is there an aftermarket frame or?

there are no issues at high drag - i never said that at all - i said if your wanting to get a 4/0 sized reel to kayak baits out then get the HX wide. in the hx family of reels there is a narrow (hxj), a standard (HX), and a wide frame (HXW) all available from Avet. to kayak you want the hxw and there is no reason to have a raptor to cast because you cant use all of its drag on a casting length rod.
