2009's WORLD'S BIGGEST SHARKS (LAND-BASED)as of 10/18/09
Im with you man, if it ant on the beach at your mercy it ant a caught fish. But hats off on all the other fish, i have fished since 86 and i ant come close to that in a year much less a week. Some one has a magnet up the you know. A serious fish magnet! I am proud to say i would not trade any slob tiger for my bad ass mako or Sean Watson's bad ass mako. Any fish that gets away is just pay back for the last good one that didnt.

this aint sail fishin partner. an if they grabbed the leader it would be even worse that they couldnt land the fish
i dont care in my book a leaderd fish is a caught fish
thats like saying if you catch a snook at the pier an just because you have him str8 down you didnt catch it because you didnt bring it up on the pier
The particular fish in question was lost when the leader broke when the fish gave a few more head shakes as it was getting pulled up onto the shallows. It was much much bigger than the Tiger Shark i had caught the day before.
I know a few fish that should be on this list that were caught and pictured.

The ideal situation is the leader man who should be wearing gloves, controls the head by keeping tension on the leader as the tail rope man moves in quickly but with much precaution to slip the rope on the tail and take control of the fish .Once that tail rope is on GAMES OVER!!!! It's a caught fish in my book. On a big shark like that it is very important to utilize the advantage of the tail rope and take your shark onto the shallow water or the sand to take your pictures ,remove your hook ,tag and release your prized catch with minimal damage to the animal. Many sharks are lost in the wash becuase an inexpierienced wire man pulls at the wrong moment,or pulls too hard causing the hooks to pull or straighten out,,,,,,,,i've seen all those scenarios. When a waves rolls in and the shark is lifted by the water is the perfect moment for the wireman to backpeddle towards the sand .Keep moderate tension on the leader while you move the shark towards the sand and when the tail rope is finnaly secured you can exert more pressure on the leader to keep the shark moving and also to keep it's head away from the tailrope man.The tail rope man should act swiftly and secure the rope as fast as possible. No room for a scared inexpierienced rope man when trying to catch a big powerful shark that could weigh four or five times more then an averege person. If you have two man available in your team to secure a tail rope have one man grab the flaying tail to give the rope man a chance to put the knot on the sharks tail. When bending over to grab the shark's tail you're gonna get wet and probably knocked around so you better expect it, but it's all worth it in the end.A big advantage would also be to have the rope man wearing long sleeved t shirt to reduce the abrasions caused by a big shark's tail slapping your arms when trying to secure the rope.
Big Tigers will roll and roll ,slap and twist and hurt you bad if you slip up so believe me from expierience this is the most crucial moment ACT SWIFTLY BUT CAUTION.The final moments and the tail rope will determine wheher you suceed or fail. Big hammers will slap and slap and you're gonna get hit in the face and arms by that fast non stop tail ,,,,,,,,,oh and be very careful a hammerhead can bend into a complete O and bite you if you get careless.

That is the problem with tag and release fishing, ya dont have to finish the job, so ya dont know if ya finshed. If Sean and I Would not have burried 5 rod holders and wraped the roap from one to the next, my big mako would have swam off 45 min. after we tail roaped it. our hands were useless and we were wore out and the fish almost got its tail back in the water. If its tail would have got in the water it would have been gone. Try to explain that. I would have been the laughing stock of the fishing community or i could just say "I tagged it" .
