AS OF August 21,2009 THESE ARE THE LEADERS OF LAND-BASED SHARK FISHING AROUND THE GLOBE .WE'RE HALFWAY THROUGH THE YEAR AND THERE IS A NICE LINEUP OF CONTENDERS FOR 2009'S BIGGEST SHARKS INCLUDING THREE DIFFERENT SPECIES THE HAMMERHEADS,THE TIGER AND THE INCREDIBLE 674 LB MAKO ERNIE POLK CAUGHT FROM THE PANHANDLE. IF ANYONE HAS INFO ON OTHER BIGGER ONES PLEASE LET US KNOW.

First place Shannon Bustamante's 12 foot 2 inch hammerhead shark caught from a Florida keys bridge (Long Key)during the 2009 BIG HAMMER CHALLENGE

Matzy (Matt )takes the second place spot with this incredible 12 foot Tiger he caught from a Panhandle beach

Matzy fighting his Third place 11 ft 9 inch hammer

The 11 foot 9 inch hammer on the beach -THIRD PLACE

11ft 7 1/2inches
Fourth place Chris Bishop's 11 ft 7 1/2 inch hammerhead caught from a West Palm Florida beach
Although other fish were in the area; this healthy tiger had a very large girth at 6' plus putting the fish in the 600-750+ lb category.

11'7" Tiger Shark

Tyler goes into Fifth place with this much deserved 11 foot 7 inch Tiger shark he caught July 2009 -Florida

Sixth place Gabe (mako) on extreme coast website 11 foot 6 inch Tiger shark caught from Texas on the Padre Island National Seashore

Seventh place Ernie Polk's 11 foot 2 inch Mako shark caught from a Florida panhandle beach during February/2009

All these sharks might be beat this summer with the best months still to come for big tigers at or near 13 feet and hammers that can reach 14 feet and beyond. It's gonna be long ,hot summer full of big shark action and there might be a big suprise coming out of North Carolina,Florida or from the looks of it Texas might do it this year.Stay tuned and see!!!

This 10 foot bull shark was caught recently at Stilltsville in Key Biscayne by some friends of (James Fuqua)Jd's boss .The guys were fishing from one of the homes docks and they paddled out into the channel a ray for bait. When they hooked the shark they had to jump on a boat and follow it .It was probably spooling the reel. This is the biggest Bull shark i have ever seen ;i think it's even bigger then then the one that was in Deaver's site some months ago caught in a South African river. It looks very pregnant and could very easily shatter the Florida state record 551 lbs and maybe even the world record of 697 lbs.The picture and story were emailed to me .

THIS BULL IS TRULY MASSIVE

This is a cool post, it would be nice to see it as a sticky and updated when needed. A nice place to look for the largest catches 8-)

Has anyone seen the video of Chris Deavers Texas Shark Fishing panhandle trip in Florida where his buddy Lasharkhunterjr caught that 13 foot tiger but had the leader broke by the beach? Any web links? There was no pictures but they said it was filmed?

There's no doubt about the 13 footer as Mr.Deaver is a very experienced accomplished sharker.Without the tape measure can the video prove it to be the largest catch in 2009 to date? That is the question I am sure we would all like to know :?: :)

I don't know, I say if you have control of the fish, you have caught it. We've all lost nice fish in the wash.

A thirty foot leader? That's hardly catching a fish, a big grander tiger in the wash is not coming in easy. When the tail rope is on and you have "control", in my opinion, you have caught the fish. Those final stages are the hardest, it ain't over till you've got the bull by the horns as they say. Regardless, that was a great fish no doubt.

Regardless it's a great fish and a grander would not be easy to handle!Think how much bigger that Tiger will be if the damn longliners don't kill it somewhere out there in the ocean!
