Anyone know where I can purchase or have built a 15 ft heavy surf rod capable of throwing a heavy piece of lead and bait? I'm looking to pair it with a penn slammer 10500. I've considered an ugly stick but am looking for something with more backbone. I love the casting distance with a 15 footer. I have a ocean master 12' and also a fairway emcast 15' and I love it. If anyone can point me in the right direction that would be great.

My buddy Ansel has a 15 foot Ugly Stick, he flings 8 ounce lead pyramids and big baits with it all the time. Probably about a pound of weight on his leader. He's got a technique for it though, I can't seem to make it work. But it does suggest that casting big baits is more skill than equipment.

I haven't seen too many rods at 15 feet, so good luck in your search.

A 15 foot rod becomes a job to fling because of its weight and length. I better setup may be around 11 or 12 which is more than sufficient to cast a 4 -8 ounce sinker and bait. The heavier the bait the more difficult it becomes to cast a longer rod .Look for rods that are light weight with grips spaced just right for you. If you are only 5 foot tall you will not cast a 12 foot rod as well as a bigger stronger person so your height and build can also determines what rod you can fish more comfortably.
