If it was 12ft 300-400lbs it would look skinny.

Just an average fisherman.

Because of guys like these, others like us, gets bad rep. No wonder that communities all over FL are trying they best to make it near to impossible to shark fish from structures, bridges, piers and beaches. These guys don't seem to care about other fellow shark fishermen - they care only about that 5 min fame. Its a shame.

ya they're pretty dumb cuz how can a 12 ft shark weigh 3-400 pounds especially a bull lol I've seen 12ft blue sharks that look anorexic be 12ft and weighed on an actual scale at 375. Thats how you know they are lying for sure the world record one at 13ft weighed over 1000lbs

Hi Guys:

That 12 ft Bull Shark was probably not a Bull Shark. I appears to have a dorsal ridge down it's back. My guess is that is not a Bull Shark but possibly a Dusky.

Comments?

Hey Normand,

Don't think it was a Dusky. I've fish this area since 1960 and don't know of a single confirmed report of a Dusky ever being taken in the bay. In this area they are primimarily offshore critters. There have been some caught within a few miles of the beach at about the same time the sandbars show up, but not in the bay.

July and August are the months that the big bulls show up around Gandy and Howard Franklin bridges. They eat the big drum and tarpon that hang around both bridges. I have a complete video of a bull a little larger than that one I caught about four years at HF bridge. It ate a 35# drum on the surface about 6' from the boat. I was just getting ready to put a balloon on to float it out. Never happened.

Unlike the guys in this story, I had the shark boatside in about 1 1/2 hours, by myself on an 80 International and old school 80# green spot dacron. In my opnion, the catch doesn't count with three guys fighting it. I clipped the leader and he swam off but (Oh No!) I sometimes have remorse about not taking the jaws.

As usual, the news had a lot of misinformation and the comments following the article and here are as expected. I let mine go but he had the right to keep his and I don't think the bull shark population of Tampa Bay will suffer too much with this one loss. Just my opnion. Let the bashing begin.

I don't know what type of shark that is, but it certainly doesn't look like a Bull.

The first pic I saw I thought the same thing as Norman, I kept asking myself "Is that really a bull?" I thought Dusky but I've never seen a dusky in person as far as I know.
I agree with you Sharkark he was within his rights to harvest and as I always say if you choose to go ahead its legal just dont waste it. Ya know? It just kinda bothered me that they told a public news station in the interview that "it will be cut up for bait" just kinda makes Shark fishermen look like wasteful trophy killers (refer to the comments on the story, the hippy's are having a field day with it). Before I deployed to Iraq I likely would have killed it too but Ive just seen too much needless F'ing killing in my 29 years on this earth. When people try to kill you and your Marines for 10 months you kinda get a different perspective on life and its value. I've taken a few bulls in my time but I just prefer not to nowdays, just dont really see a need anymore.
Sharkark, love the avatar image! Gandy? My fav bullspot ;) sucks its closed down, I really liked that spot.
