With the arrival of summer on the south beach pier came a magical time to be a shark fisherman.Like no other time of the year the water below the pier would be crystaline clear and totally transparent clear down to the bottom.Right below us the water teamed with schools of baitfish in layers divided by species(sardines,pilchards,cigar minnows,baby jacks,baby blue runners,)each swarming to the movements of the maurauding cudas and blue runners attacking from below. It was a simple thing for us to slip on the snokeling gear, grab the speargun, and swim under the pier to spearfish our own bait which could be barracuda,jacks,blue runners,tarpon,sting ray,kingfish,etc,etc.Everything we needed to catch sharks was right there on or below that old concrete pier.
hammer was tellin me alonng time ago. it might have been the nite of old moe but they were diving and speared a poon as a boat came. they went down and the poon was goin crazy jumpin with a spear hangin out of him and a fwc drove rite over them without noticing.
