Snakehead fishing Thailand

As a nice 6 month present I caught my first snakehead today. I haven't used any guides for them and have fished for them many times before without any luck. This place I found my self and saw plenty of fish here.

I think because the summer is ending (bad time of the year to fish) and we had the first rain in two months yesterday, but not enough to raise the water combined with the hacking of the snakehead fry to make them more aggressive made it happen today.

After two hours of soaking bait with nothing I switched to lures and hooked one the first cast and second cast. After that I had no more strikes in that spot so I move to another place.

There I saw some huge ones (2' and 4+ pounds) but they wouldn't take a lure.

The next spot looked good and I caught three more fish. Two about 1' long and one big boy (girl) that was around 2' and weighed (supposedly) 3 lb.

All fish I brought home for the table, but later realized it is the breeding season and I should have released them.

So catch and release from now on I guess.

The first fishing place.

My first Striped Snakehead

Back to back fish

The lure I used for all the fish

This is what you look for, the babies getting air with the angry parents close by

What these guys look like under water

Big Haws I call it

All the fish and the lure used

I actually caught them in order from smallest to biggest

My big one. My mom here wants me to sell it to her to use at the food shop she owns, 150 baht ($0.50 actually a lot here, a full meal cost 30 baht)

Tackle used was 15 lb braid, custom lure. Looks like a frog without legs, instead just a ball of rubber things. 6'6" Ugly Stick Lite (awesome rod for the money, I have landed 30 pound salmon on this), U.S. Reel. Tried a 10' long Bimini twist and don't think I will ever go back, can lift fish out of the water by the line, yank lures off nearby trees and casts just fine.

I got one of those Snakeheads up in a lake behind the "Cracker Barrel." on US1
They hit rubber worms, I was bass fishing and the one I got was around 5lbs.
They fight really good, I thought I had a monster Bass.

They are plentiful at the lake at my job. I had one chase me on the flat because it had babies. I've hooked some monster ones like 3-4 footers they are huge in this lake!!! They're a nuisance here !!!

In Florida you guys have Northern Snakeheads and Giant Snakeheads, these are Stiped Snakeheads, I think they are smaller the Northers, but am not sure. Anyways the big ones are fun, I will have to chase some back stateside.

The fish &game depts of everyplace in the US those fish have showed up are afraid of them decimating native populations, & want them gone,
They say some got thier start because of illegal "stocking of fish bought at asian food stores,
they are like BOWFIN,
There is a huge "Wetland up in NY federal protected, beautiful , huge weedy ,lilly pads ,duckweed etc,
It got carp in it & they root the bottom up & ruin bass nest & such,
Soooo, the state, in it's infinite wisdom STOCKED BOWFIN!! TO "eat the carp"
Well, now the wetland has lots of carp , & Bowfin, , & the Bowfin eat bass, pickerel, sunnies , crappies, ,all gamefish ,
They are leftovers from the Devonian Age, savage predators, & grow big, I saw an 11pounder bite a guy on the hand after he caught it & he left to go for stitches!

The wetland had huge bass at onetime [it's 12 miles long, ] they found 12# bass in a mortality count after a heavy freeze one year, I know the guy who caught a 9# there. but now the Bowfin are ruining it
the snakehead may do that in Florida wherever it shows up.

There was a show on ANIMAL PLANET, RIVER MONSTERS with JEREMY WADE catching SNAKE HEADS he caught each type I think

He only caught all three but in both Thailand and America. And yes in America Asian Flathead Carp and Snakeheads are destroying the fisheries there.

Been awhile since I saw that RIVER MONSTER SHOW so I wasn't exactly sure what he'd caught; YOUR Report is better than the River Monster show BAT,
Isn't the Giant FreshWater STINGRAY in Thailand too?
