Got a big (7 LBS 10oz) snakehead on Sunday afternoon and then a bigger one (34", 8Lbs) on Monday after work. Gave them to my buddy at work. He grilled 'em up and they are gooood. The meat is similar to tilapia. White and flaky, little more firm than tilapia. Great for grill since it does not fall apart. I am going to smoke one up next time.

We had breakfast burritos with snakehead this morning at the office. Excellent!

The fight is insane. My freshwater gear consists of tiny shakespere gear that is great for bass. I lost snakeheads on this gear so I brought out my small saltwater gear.

I am using a Quantum Smoke 25 on a star 6-14lb seagis. I was fishing light drag for the reel, I had to go tighter, and tighter and tighter due to the cypress trees and irrigation pipes. This rod gets a good bend with these fish! The drag was still screaming after I adjusted a couple times. These fish will still make a final run once their belly hits the mud by the shore even on a tighter drag.

They bulldog straight out and you can just watch the line cut through the water.

Once I took the hook out, he jump from my hands, and literally made a run for the water. He got from the grass to the mud before I grabbed him and threw him back up on the grass LOL.

I don't know how you fish for them, but in Thailand it was all top water right on shore. I fished 20lb braid with the drag at about 10lbs. I liked a 3' section of double line to lift them out and for extra chafe protection. Then a swivel to give the lure more action.

I bought the smoke 25 once I got back also. Awesome little reel, wish I had it in Thailand.

Here is south Florida, they love the frogs close to shore. Now they are mating so you can site cast for the big ones. They won't hit the frogs now but if you run a spinner bait by them, they will hit it out of aggression.
Since it is my inshore set up, it is 15lb braid with a 15 Lb mono leader. I may add a swivel, their death roll technique is intense and can put some twist in the line.

Got another 8 LB fish last night. I swore it was smaller than the last one but I guess it just felt like it b/c I had the drag tight since I was close to the storm drain and the cat tails.

Nice!!!!

Sounds like the fishing technics are the same for them here and there.

Love to come down there someday and catch one state side. And as you noted they taste delicious
