Light tackle mini tarpon 1/17/10

Actually thought about staying home today and watching the Cowboy's game . Then drank some more coffee and came to my senses . I woke up this morning with an Uncle Kracker song stuck in my head , it was horrible , I had to get out . Grabbed the 6 weight fly rod , my spinning rod and went to conquer something in the canals and try and get some pictures . A big storm front had just passed so I had the whole world of the swamp land to myself. The tarpon were there , I just walked the banks with my camera and rods most of the day . Jumped 20 or more , they were all small but that was cool . It was hard trying to take any decent shots holding the rod and camera , these little tarpon are so fast when they jump . If they didn't throw the lure back in my face , they were wrapping up in a big tangled mess.Walked up on a gator and tapped him on the head with my fly rod , that was weird. Anyways , here's some pics . Gearing up to hit the beach for some shark soon , sandbars should be here . The water is warming up nicely from a chilly 48 last week.
