Lakeworth pier. My biggest tarpon 6ft+ Biggest for the year?
Last Saturday JD Hammer picked up me, and soviet sharker (achot), to head up to west palm beach, got out on the pier late friday night and left to fish for sometime at boynton inlet with no luck, next morning we all headed up to lakeworth pier and got lines in the water. Bait was everywhere, i put down a shark rigging and set up for bottom baits and snagging.
Snagging in a thick school of bait you would expect to catch only bait, but I had 2 snooks eat my goggleyes off of the hook and accidentally snagged a very large bermuda chub.
The shark rod got hit by a 300lb southern ray that went straight under the pier and sitting on the harnell and teh duel on full drag stopped him completely and brought him almost to the surface, but then he pulled hard and cut me on a piling.
The day was starting to get boring so people went to get lunch, moments later the boats caught bait and left and then a huge bait run of 200-300 jacks came all the way to the pier, I believe the boat spooked them cause they wouldn't hit anything.
But after 30 minutes the jigmaster was screaming, JD set hook and got stripped to the knot and turned the fish, then I walked up the pier and was handed the rod, this fish charged for the beach and in 10 minutes I was now at the beginning of the south side of the pier getting stripped again, luckily there was a bloodknot in the line that caught the swinging bank sinker full of seaweed that I eventually reeled up and had cut off so I could fight hte fish better. The fish ran into some swimmers and headed back east and towards the pier. Once it got out into the current at the end of the pier it stripped a substantial amount out of the reel and turned north west, within minutes I was back at the beginning of the pier, this time though I was on the north side.
After an hour fight with a jigmaster filled with 40lb mono and the leader was #7 wire, i was worried about this fish coming off, it made many attempts to go under the pier, but me and 2 others got in the water to grab the fish.
Eventually we had a large crowd around us and an even larger one watching us from the pier.

6ft+, 100lb+
