Key Biscayne offshore fishing on "shark fever"
Met up with Kenny ,Colby and Eddie for a day of offshore fishing. We started the morning by catching plenty of live herring on the sabiki's .After anchoring up next to seven other boats on Bug Light we set out a chum bag , filled our live well, and headed to fish a spot 25 miles south of Fowey rocks close to the whistle bouy.We quickly had to adapt because Murphy's law came into play right away .We had a problem when the starboard(right )propeler blew a hub.I always keep the most important of spare parts on board so off with the clothes and into the water i went to remove the prop and replace the hub,,,,,,,,not an easy job from a boat that's bobbing around. We made the best of our situation because after replacing the hub we were up on plain and the hub on thge left engine blew out and was not willing to cut up my hands anymore on this day so we fished close bypn 135 feet of water where we marked some very rocky bottom.

replacing the blown hub everyone has to help to get it done

we trolled with one engine as we searched for a good spot to drop anchor

we were quickly rewarded with an assortment of toothy critters

Colby with a shallow water dolphin just like the one that Eddie lost at boatside
Once we anchored up it was a good day to be on this reef.Gag and red grouper were abundant to all dropping down the live herring .

After the bite slowed we decided to move 2 miles due south of our spot to a wreck on 200 feet of water so we trolled some more on the way to our destination.Once at our spot we were surrounded by three other boats allready on the wreck so we moved back in to 90 feet of water to find some more reef fish .Colby put out a big bonita from my freezer but the sharks were not cooperating.

After a while I announced we would head back early on this day because running on one engine and ten to twelve miles away from the Crandon park marina we needed extra time to get back before nightfall. So we trolled with x-rap lures, a deep running lure for kings or wahoo and a tube lure in the hopes of catching a fresh cuda for shark bait.Eddie and his Rapala x-rap lure were the cause of me having to power down the motor so he could reel in another different species of fish hungrily devouring his plug.

and yes folks even a Lizard fish on the X-Rap!!!!!!
The Bear cut bridge catwalk rotting into the water

the Bear cut bridge and it's catwalk the last remaining catwalk in south Florida and it is being allowed to rot into the water by the corrupt crooked politicians of Miami and Key Biscayne,,,,,,,,what a shame another Landmark disappering before our sad eyes!!!!!

In just before sundown and the fullmoon is up and Halloween night beckons

the approach to Crandon park marina
We turned what might of been a crappy day fishing into a wonderful day making due with the oppurtunities afforded us.Beautiful day to be alive in south Florida despite the crooked politicians and all the other problems we are surrounded by.Very few places are as unique as South Florida !!
