First Permit
Finally caught my first permit. Last thursday I went out with Cpt. Joe Gonzalez for bonefish. We fished all day, but conditions were in Joe's terms "too good" the sun was up and there was no wind so the conditions were slick calm and the bonefish were SPOOKY. I must have had a shot at 20 bones, with a few bad casts and a few that shoulda been a fish, we had fished from 7am to 3pm without a fish.
Joe knows I've really wanted a permit for a while, so he took me down to a permit flat. I had a shot a three BIG tailing fish and popped a crab perfectly on the middle one, but no result. Next we staked up on a flat next to a hole that Joe says holds up to 30 of them at a time. I saw one
v-wake and threw a crab to him and it was on. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.. my fishing line began to fly off my reel . I have to say that permit are lb for lb a lot better fighters then bonefish, it put up the best fight ive ever seen for a fish of its size. I can't wait to go out and catch another one.
