It was finally here.july 7th. Highlight of my summer every year. Finally headed down to edisto island,Sc to do some Serious fishing with my best friend and his family !

So about 6-8 hours later, we are finally here! And me and my buddy don't want to do anything but fish. So we unpack and head down to the beach. It's just as beautiful as the last time

So we fish through out the night and not even a bite. We figure maybe it's just a bad day. We were wrong. The first couple of days on the beach are terrible and nothing but whiting, pups, and black drum on the Beach. Still fun

So we decide to fish some of the lagoons around the island and do pretty good on croaker and redfish

Avery's first red

My first red

Some more fish

So by this time(Last day), we are feeling pretty dissapointed. We're fishing out hearts outs and still not getting the big fish we want. We wake up that morning and head to the baitshop and grab some shrimp. So we both decide go big or go home and decide to fish all day. We head to the beach and castnet some finger mullet and throw them on live. Then after about 5 minutes. We hear a bait clicker and see my buddy's carrot stix bowed over. Nice fish on the beach a butterfly ray.

So it's still not the big fish were after but were happy. Then we notice and think about something. It's about 4:30 and we can see a crescent moon in the sky. We haven't seen the moon All week! It's been hidden by clouds and non visible. We get a really good feeling about tonight. We go catch some pinfish and head back to the beach.

It's about 6:30 and we got all our gear for the night. I grab a knife and draw a line in the sand infront of our lines. I called it my BS line. Where all the BS stops. . We both get baits put and then sun starts going down.

THEN IT HAPPENS
We had been getting our baits eaten up by baby sharks the whole time we were there and we would see that when they are eating our baits they would make our rods jump and vibrate. My rods starts doing that whole thing and I think nothing of it. And turn away. I look back and my rod is Slowly Bending over and my drag starts GOING! I tighten my drag and he's still pulling like its nothing. So I let him run for a while and then finally put the heat on him and turn him. But then he just stops. Like he's stuck. And all I'm thinking is a MASSIVE RAY. We fight and fight for about 15-20 minutes and then I finally get him in wave break and I see about 2-3 foot long tail swinging around in the air and know exactly what it is! My first giant stingray

Didn't get a measurement because we were so excited and happy to land a big one. :?

It just so happens the bite turns on the last day of our trip. My friend hooks up with another giant stingray but he ended up breaking off but he did get a really good redfish

So I would call this a pretty successful trip and another great time on the sand. Everyone was happy :)

Man that's a very nice report with a big variety of fish caught by a big group of friends. We sure love to see the youngsters out there enjoying a lovely summer on the beach fishing and just enjoying the seashore.Im impressed with the pics and the report itself ,,thanks. All you need now is a kayak so you can get those rays out beyond the surf and hook up on the toothy ones.
