Every year when the cold fronts start we expierience a phenomena that only occurs when the wind whips up usually in the fall or early winter. As far back as I can remember this has been an annual occurence. In the mix with the mackeral and bluefish and even ribbon fish (cutlass fish)we get red grouper, and mutton snapper .They are I guess blown off the reef and into the shallower water that fronts most east coast piers.I remember the same thing happened on the Newport pier year after year. The fish are usually smallish but once in a while a nice one sneaks in.Between Lui and I we caught about a dozen red grouper and three small muttons ,,,,,,,all undersized but fun to catch and a treat that only takes place a few times a year.My pier fishing education started at an early age and has served me welll .I'm grateful to see nature keeping it's pace and all the beautiful things that are part of the natural world year in and year out.
