Charlotte Harbor Inshore Report
Got down to my place on Palm Island in NW Charlotte Harbor saturday. I had a few hours before the front hit so I wanted to get some sheepshead. Well... sheepshead weren't there and I didn't have the time before the front to go where I knew they would be. Hit the flats and trout wouldn't cooperate. The front hit so my father and I did some work around the house. I was gonna go shark fishin that night on the beach but between the factors of 7ft surf, it being nighttime on a private island (no bridges to mainland) and me being by myself there was no way I was gonna risk shark fishin. So I woke up the next mornin early and surf was okay enough for me to paddle out a bait and my father even joined me to help me take out the first bait. Fact is the current was rippin and 12oz of weight wouldn't hold. Moved to plan B and hopped in the boat to look for sharks tailin. Went down to the Bull Bay area and caught a few trout and saw what looked like a 9ft bull (it was one heck of a bull) pushin in 1ft of water and with my boat theres no way I could get to him at all. Drove down to Boca Grande hoping that between the tides the 4ft seas would die down but they didn't and my plan for a goliath went down the drain. It's gettin to 4pm and I gotta get some fish so I hit my favorite trout spot and it was one after the other every cast. Ended up with my limit between 15-18in. Went back to the dock got my dad and went back for his limit. We ended up with 3 in the boat and only time for one more cast so I casted hopin for a red but the biggest trout ive ever got hooked on. She went 25in. So it was a good ending to a long day with two people's limits of trout and a very respectable momma trout. Hopefully if the weather cooperates this upcoming weekend I'll have an offshore report and a shark report. Ive been wantin to dive this spring soooo bad... it's in 185 ft of water loaded with carbo's and 100lb aj's so I'm just waitin for that day of flat seas so i can get out that far.

Great writeup Trevor .Thanks for sharing it with us.That's one beautiful and hefty trout,,Congratulations!!Hope you nail a big one next weekend.
