boca pass-4/9/11 through 4/12/11
just got back from the beach, and having trouble remembering all the way back to saturday but ill do my best...
4/9/11-me and james met up around afternoon and headed to the fishing pier to catch some bait. we ended up catching a few rays and a few pup sharks and took our limit (for the pups atleast) out to the beach and were set up by 9 or so i think. the outgoing tide was rippin so hard we couldnt get a bait to stick, however around 1 the tide went slack and so we dropped 5 baits, and long story short we ended up with maybe a half dozen runs and 2 hookups-both on my trex on pup sharks. subdued a 71" maybe 200lber jewfish quickly and immediately after hooked up to a LEVIATHON... i fought him for close to 30min and didnt gain back an inch of line the whole time-he just kept goin and goin against a very tight drag, until he found a drop off and broke me up
.. i strongly believe this jewfish was 450-500lbs plus but ill never know for sure.... maybe he is saving himself so i can catch him during the BHC???
4/10/11-all was quiet afterwards till around 6-7 when me and james both hooked up on sharks and both times hooks popped... so we headed back to rest at the apartment for breakfast and took off again at afternoon time to the fishing pier to sock up again on bait. this time we did awesome and got either 7 or 8 rays and 3 nice size bonnetheads plus a few mullet some tourists didnt want and grouper carcassses/grunts and other stuff james had brought... however fishing this night sucked-the tide took forever to change and slack tide was almost nonexistent, so we ended the night with a whopping 0 pickups
4/11/11- we left around 6 from the beach and did the same as the morning before-got breakfast and caught bait, however we decided to try and find a new spot for bait and ended up fishing under one of the bridges on the way out to boca which really produced (even more rays than the day before, and limitless numbers of bonnetheads and atlantic sharpnose... plus witnessed quite a few tarpon feeding under the bridge on threadfins) we set up on 4th street around 7 and had 4 beautiful baits out between 200-300 plus yards out past the second sand bar by 9. as it turns out there are infact fish other places besides the pass
however we had atleast 3 breakoffs and hooked up on two sharks (one of which went air-born)
4/12/11-the other shark took the furthest out bait on the 30w and in addition to the 20-24" bonnethead ate about 3 feet of wire and a few additional feet of 400lb mono... guess he had a big mouth
an hour later we called it and headed back for breakfast and to prep for baitfishing later. headed out soon after and stayed at the same bridge till about 4:30 and ended the fishing with 8 rays and 3 or 4 small pups in the freezer for the BHC (will be adding to it over the next week.)
all in all i had a great few days and i think james can say the same- we got a nice jewfish, lost a monster, found a new shark and bait spot, stocked up on bait for the upcoming tournament, and offcourse had some awesome food delivered to the beach compliments of my dad

showin off the 50w

the new spot

rerigging after losing that last shark
Nice report -thanks.That's a whole lot of fishing time on a beach.Have you guys tried yakking out a live ray on a heavy rock or sandbag. That might be the ticket to entice one of those giant Bucky Dennis sized hammers but then again I don't believe you possess the reel with the required yardage to slow one of them MONSTERS.Good luck to you and your team in the BHC.
