big goliath grouper from bridge. 12/3/11

well me and my buddy luis decided to make a trip down to the keys. we both met up friday night at the race track in homestead,then we wear off to go hit one of the bridges in search of some sharks. when we got thear we packed up the carts fast and made the walk out thear, and started rigging up and putting out baits. we spent an hour i think just trying to get four baits out because of the wind. we finnaly had all the baits out by around 11:30 or 12:00. we had out a big bonita carcess, a tail half of cuda, a head half of cuda,and an amberjack carcess. we let all the baits soak all night without one solid hit. then at around 6:00 in the morning my 12/0 with the bonita carcess starts to go off and luis is telling me wake up get up, your rods getting hit. so i get up and start walking realy slowly towards my rod still half asleep thinking it might be grass on my line in the current or something by the way it was running, it was a veary steady but veary slow run. all i remmember is thinking it wasent a fish. but it was allmost slacktide so with the current that slow i knew it had to be something. so i put my 12/0 into freespool and tightend down the star drag while letting the fish eat, then i put it in gear and set hook on it. as soon as i set hook on it, it started cutting to the right like supper fast torward the electrical poles, so i thew the rod over my shoulder and started running to the left knowing that was probably the only chance i had to bring it inside the poles. and the line did touch but i managed to get it inside the poles. then got him straight up and down after a good fight. then i was going to cut it off but luis convenced me to walk it down to the seawall and im glad he did, cause we ended up with theas great pics. thanks luis for all the help i could not have done it with out you. we need to do it again soon.
