BIG cobia
Left my dock sunday with high hopes for some quality grouper diggin...stopped in 27' and loaded both live wells with pins, pigs, and sand perch and off to the fishing grounds we went...stopped in 50' and did a few drifts...grouper bite was good so we dropped anchor.
Shortly there after I drop down a big perch and immediately get hammered...it was something BIG!!! The weight like a nurse shark but with explosive runs and brut strength...what the heck is it...then finally after about 15-20mins I finally see it....COBIA!!! A big freakin cobia...he wasnt tired yet. A few more runs to the bottom and back and we finally manage to get 2 gaffs in him and on to the deck he flops...and slams...and thrashes. No broken gear or lost appendages lol
Pics arent the best
At 72lbs and 5ft long it was difficult to fit us both in the pic lol

We also caught gags to 30"...lots of triggers...and a real nice hogfish at 20" ...with cooler room at a minimum and plenty of meat to take home we pulled anchor and criuised the pots on the way back in but only saw one tripletail that spooked

That is a BIGGGGGGG cob!!!!Love to catch them huge SUPRISE FISH that show up out of nowhere.Bet that put you on cloud nine the rest of the day. Thanks for the report.
How far off were you fishing?
