Back to the game
I haven't fished in about 1 year up until last week but it sucks that the forums have seemed to have died thanks to decadent sites like Instaspam and Fakebook and what not so here's a little fishing report for my first week back to fishing.
I went to the beach a couple of times, first time I got two big rays on casted baits one was about 60-70 lb and the other was about 40, I released the bigger one since I didn't have my 12/0 with me that day and the second ray a guy walking along as I landed it asked me if he could keep it to eat. So I gave it to him and he took it up to his condo.
A couple days later I went back down and there was lots of small baits and lady fish. A few hours before sunset I swam out a couple of ladyfish out to the deeper water and it was dead until after sunset and the swimming made me tired. I finally got a blacktip then released it and the other bait I swam out was torn up by catfish so now I was limited to casting and every bait I put out after that was chewed up by smaller black tips and catfish so I called it a night.
Yesterday I went to Big Carlos and netted some pilchards on the shore and then walked out on to the span to put them out while casting a jig for mackerel or a jack and had no success with that. Then finally the guy next to me started catching catfish after dark, and I finally managed to get one myself I cut the head off and set it out into the whirlpool with no weight on. Within 10 minutes I got a smaller jewfish probably between 20-30 lbs and called it a night.
Sorry, not many pictures and I see the nickel snatchers have replaced a lot of our pics with their website logo. But it is good to be fishing again finally. Hopefully the website will pick back up and people will quit wasting their time on instaspam and fakebook..you won't find me on there that's definite.
Baby jewfish not big enough to be called a goliath
This is a tarpon I got off the bridge on the last trip before my break from fishing, it also ate a catfish tail and was probably about an 80-90 pounder.

Glad to see you back at John,,,,once a fishermen always a fishermen.I think the better more dedicated anglers will see the light and migrate back to the few hardcore shark fishing websites in time. Up ahead I have the daunting task of recouping all the pics posted in this forum over the years and uploading them into a more honest and reliable pic hosting service. Thanks again for your report.

Couple of stud fishies!
FB and IG are cool but not the place to tell the complete fishing stories to the shark fishing community.
I need to find a new site to host the photos. The only reason I signed up for photobucket was to post photos here and they caught on and want some cash to use photobucket now.
Here fishy fishy fishy.....
Catch a fish or catch a buzz!
Thanks guys it is good to see both of you still around here haha, looks pretty dead. Yeah sorry Will, it looks like ohotobucket is holding our pictures hostage, what a joke. I am sure they already make a ton of money via ad revenue, but the nickel snatchers refuse to leave a single penny behind these days.
You're right Gucci, these non-fishing sites I prefer to keep my pictures off of them. The whole point of putting fishing pictures online for me is that it goes good with a fishing report and I thought that was the whole point of this is to share reports to help anglers get better at what they're doing. All my old reports I always tried to have a little clue either in the pictures or the writing that people can use to either find fish, or what to use for bait, what kind of gear is best for what sort of fishing you're doing, what point in the tides is best and all that stuff. Because I know I got quite a bit of help from the veteran guys here so it is nice to be able to do the same. But now it isn't even about fishing reports it seems, a new era of instagram fishermen (what I call em) has come along and they don't participate in the forums. However they do use these sites for our info then take that info and go out fishing for ego booster pics to show off, they fish for wifi pats on the back rather than the sport and the challenge of it.
With this warm weather we still have we still have big tarpon in the canals and large jacks too, and medium sized snook. It is like spring already and I never remember a winter where it was so easy to get good bait, I don't even have to work hard for it, mullet are everywhere and the larger snook are still around right with them.
