7 mile and long key report (Feb 2008)
Met up with some friends from the shark club JD,Julio,LUi my cousin Willi and his wife Irma to fish long key bridge monday night outgoing tide hoping to tangle with a big shark but the tarpon are'nt around in numbers yet so the sharks are not showing up in numbers either. We caght some keeper mangroves and a nurse shark then in the morning we shot down to fish the 7 mile bridge and the fishing turned for the better.JD(Jimbo) was at CHannel 2 where he met Tommy-Bf and caught a snook before hooking up with us that first night at Long Key. The action was better for the bottom fishing with mangroves up to 6lbs and a mutton that was about 8 lbs.Strangely enough the mackeral that Tommy reported at channel 2 were not at 7 miler. We had sunny weather a nice breeze was blowing and the fishing was pretty good using fresh pilchards and live shrimp but the biggest fish were caught using live pinfish. The nurse curse followed us to 7 miler with 2 more nuse sharks caught throughot the day.We caught an assortment of other not as desirable fish but overall the bite was on with the snapper.Right before sundown we start seeing a lady being pushed through the channel at the end of the bridge swimming out into
the bay side ,we yelled out if she was ok and she yelled out HELP!so right away we're on the phone with coast guard to report a possible drowning. We tossed out a five gallon jug a water for her to use as a float
but the wind and the current was pushing it away from her faster then she could swim:so we tell her to grab a nearby lobster and to hang on coast guard is on the way.Ten Minutes later she is rescued and we are proud of
the coast guards quick response.Turns out she was drinking and camped out on the little island on the Atlantic side of the bridge and got caught in the current while swimming. We had a great time fishing in a big group among old friends and family
