They are also premier sword fishermen of Miami and have pre-made rigs and expertise in that area. Also Ronnie buys out closing sale merchandise from tackle shops so he has many shark hooks and other products that aren't produced anymore for dirt cheap prices. Never met Jeff but Ronnie is a cool and down to earth guy. He has strong ties with lingren pittman and duel.
Just an average fisherman.
I've Known Captain Ron Schatman since I was a teenager fishing the Newport pier in 1977 and he ran one of the charter boats on the Castaway Dock across the street from the pier.During slow days on the pier we'd go jigging for jacks and tarpon in the canals around the Castaway docks and many days we'd get skunked and we'd end up getting shark bait fron Ronnie and the other charter boats. We looked up to Ronnie because he always caught big sharks and taught the rest of the captains on that dock how to target the swordfish which he learned from the Cuban commercial fisherman years earlier as a commercial fishermen himself. As far back as I can remember Ronnie was helpful with supplying us shark bait and with advice on rigs and spots to fish locally.Years later Ronnie's son Jeffrey Schatman following in his father's footsteps became a talented charter boat Captain in Costa Rica where he gained lots of expierience fishing inshore and offshore.Capt Ron Schatman has become a bit of a south Florida fishing celebrity having pioneered many techniques for deep dropping, high speed Wahoo fishing, and the use of new techniques for targetting Marlin as he has won the BBC(Bahamas Billfish Championship) several timesin past years.Glad to hear he and his son Jeffrey have opened a business together. I wish them much success.
