Penn Reels, which ones are still made here in the USA
I checked out Scott's Parts and if you need a new 14/0 spool, it says they are made in China for $230 bucks thereabouts. Here's another thread I found posted.Let's see what you guys have heard???
Penn Reels Made in the USA!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is related to the other thread about Penn 14/0 and 16/0 reels, but I thought it worthy of its own thread, since it's not entirely related to bringing back or having a special run of the 14/0 and 16/0 Senators that was the real topic of the other thread.
The other thread had some discussion about whether Penn reels were all made in China or somewhere. I still use the 14/0 Senators so I wondered about that and decided to get the straight scoop from the horse's mouth so I emailed Penn directly.
Their reply was that all International model reels are made in the USA using CNC machines and all are inspected to ensure quality.
The Senator reels still made in the USA are the 113HN, the 115L (9/0), and the 116L (12/0). Regrettably (I didn't know this) they stopped making the 117L (14/0) three years ago. They plan to move production of the 9/0 overseas next year but currently have no plans to stop making the 12/0 in the USA.
Other reels still made in the USA are:
All "Torque" models, both conventional and spinning reels,
All GLD reels and,
the 535, 545, 555, 525MAG, 320LD and 330LD reels.
