Looking for penn 10/0, 12/0, 14/0 in the Tampa-Ft Myers area
I've got plenty of stuff for trade, cabos, loomis rods, random other fishing stuff.
I've got an Avet 50Wtrx and a 80W Pro Ex, I just have reservations with dragging them out on the sand with me every time I want to hit the beach.
All trades considered, I don't care if she's pretty or not, as long as she can get the job done(right?! haha).
And before anybody asks... no, I'm not going to be trading the Avets.
Thanks for checking the thread out.

im sorry i just dont understand how a 14/0 gets spooled.
My father comes from the old school of shark fishing
his 9/0 with 60 lb ande
I've seen pictures of 11' hammer heads that he caught on the 9/0
then he had his 10/0s
and 12/0s
with doulbe 130 dacron .
Back in the day they caught the biggest of the big. 1,000 plus lb hammers tiggers bullsharks.
never onced spooled
How come so many people are loosing fish on 14/0s? are the drag washers now adays not as good as back then ?
Seems odd with 50 + lbs of drag and 1,000 + yards of line that you cant stop a big fish.
not knocking anyone or down talking. im kind of distraught over this stuff ive been reading.
Maybe there's something new in the water lol We had a 12/0 get dumped with the drag locked down, a fish on a 14/0 that took over 1000 yds that never turned, and Will had his 14/0 blown up in a two week period during the BHC.
Did the drag get cooked or something ? i cant seem to put two and two together... I've been fishing sice i was 3 years old. I'm 20 years into the game and I've landed big fish on light tackle.
I have never got stripped
I would like to experience something taking 800 yards of 100 lb braid with locked drag.
I really trully find this topic to be fascinating
First are you sure the shark was a bull, ive had a lot of people misidentify sandbar sharks as bulls. Second, length isnt really the factor, i guarantee a 300-400lb 11ft hammer wont fight anywhere near as hard as a 800-1000lb hammer...no matter the length. These 14/0s being stripped arent by a 11ft hammer, we are talking 14ft plus, 750-1500lb sharks. Ive personally watched a 14/0 and 16/0 on separate occasions completely dumped, reels smoking, and both had the ability to reel backwards after they got trashed on at ft desoto. And dont forget guys, every shark fights differently, there are so many variables.
Helllllllll yea!!!!!!!it's a trip looking at peoples faces when you bring out the big guns at the same place that they are swimming..
then they ask you..'what you fishing for'?I say "SHARKS".........The last word you here them say is""KIDS,OUT OF THE WATER""!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The 12 got picked up and from free spool to almost full drag the fish actually took off faster. I had another fish on, I had my wife dug in the sand and luckily there were two railroad ties washed up. She had her feet against those and the fish was picking her up off the sand lol. Took it down to a few wraps from the spool and hung the leader up on something. Fish never hesitated, slowed, or thought of stopping. Drag was in perfect working order. The fish that was on the 14 took line for almost 2 hours. Never turned never gained one crank on it. It would just swim side to side then run some more. Did the same thing hung the leader up. Awesome vid and good example of a fish that just cant be stopped

There are undoubtedly sharks too large to be landed, unless you take chase in a canoe or have an 18/0 everol spooled with #130, with another waiting for the tie-in.
For those within our reach, it's all in how you handle your tool. I used to beat my 12/0 into the ground, and on drag-melting runs, I'd sit in the water with the reel at water level at my chest.
It would, however, be really interesting to see what those freight trains really are... My guess is that they are submarines.
On that note, do any of you have a spare 14/0? ![]()
I have only ever seen one reel completely dumped and the reel that it was tied into was almost dumped as well, it was one night at delray beach a couple years back as shannon fished a 12/0 full of dacron and hooked a monster, it emptied the 12/0 slow and steady then when it got to the bottom, a team of quick and coordinated people held the fish long enough to tie into a 14/0 and the fight was then continued.
But JD has told me many times that he has never been dumped before and some of you know that off of haulover pier him and rene stopped an 11ft hammer on a jigmaster and a 4/0 with only mono!
But what others have said, every fish is different...
by the way, john, message "clack clack clack" on the website, he lives in miami but i think he might have a 10/0, 12/0, 14/0 or all of the above ![]()
Just an average fisherman.
