The argument is I'm tired of hearing people say they fish there reels at 120 pounds of drag. It's not humanly possible to do so. Come on guys do your homework. I've caught a lot of sharks, seen a lot of big sharks get caught and watched grown men that were 245 6'4 struggle to hold onto a reel that had 46 pounds of drag. And when you can get a 16/0 to get 100 pounds of drag your something just short of a god.

And 120 pounds of drag is when the knob is fully tightned and is all the way to full which I doubt most of the people who fish lever drags ever even mess with the knob. They just put the reel at full and are actually getting 40 pounds of drag and say its 120 pounds.

Heres where I think everyone is getting hung up. You can physically put over 60lbs of drag on a fish and it is more technique than it is physical size or even strength. I fish the Avet reels and am very familiar with the amount of drag they put out. The reels putting out in excess of 60lbs of drag are out there - the T-Rex is one of them, but just because you throw the lever to full doesnt mean you are fishing 100lbs or more of drag - if the fish is only pulling 40lbs of drag but you have the lever jacked up to full that does not mean you are fishing 100lbs of drag. Now if you have the lever to full and the preset dialed up to put out 100lbs of drag and the fish is still taking line then you are now fishing 100lbs of drag. Its kind of like going to the gym and putting 415lbs on the flat bench - just because you crawl under it does NOT mean that you lifted it - not until you do a full rep with that weight can you claim to have lifted it - and not until a fish has taken drag off a reel set to 100lbs or more can you honestly say you have "fished" 100lbs of drag.

cody on the trx they are 116 to 120lbs of drag before loosing free spool so if you crank the knob down you will loose free spool but will also get more drag. it is possible to fish a trx in lock down i have done it and seen it done. just because one person cant do it doesnt mean every one cant.

yes but like dude just said unless that fish can pull it your not fishing 100+ lbs of drag if that fish can only pull 40lbs then your only using 40+ lbs not 100+ i can put on 100lb drag and reel in a 50lb redfish and that doesnt prove i fish with 100lb drag you only truly know u can hold it if the fish is pulling it thats why i said tie to a car if your sure you can do it lock it down and let the car move out at 5 mph so it pulls drag but i guarantee you'll move before that drag does

my reel doesnt have a preset knob, i get full drag at all times. no strike bar handicap for me. ohh and my 12 everol is modified so the drag is increased substantially. i hooked into a 19-22ft boat with a 225 merc and yes i was drug into the pier railing. I held on for about 10seconds and was almost spooled, less than a third of line left. went to just over 3/4 drag and broke off the 200lb braid.

thank you someone who is honest enough to say he dragged till he was held up by the pier railing lol those drags are awesome and im not downing them in anyway all im saying is you gotta be strapped into something or have something holding you down or holding you back to even use it lol

@Cody, Thats what i have been saying!!! I cant see a fish pulling 120lbs of drag for more then 5 yards without breaking its neck. Many people have witnessed me fish my TRX, when im hooked up i turn the nob till it wont turn and slam that lever down. My tiger pulled 3-5 yards out the whole fight and it was done. If you have a shark pulling a constant 120 then you better hope you can swim.

Not picking you out Dan bit I just been down to Venice and heard to many kids say they can hold a rod that has 120 pounds of drag on the other end. I've been fishing to long and been told by too many kids that have no idea what they are talking about. Just seemed like a good time express my views.
