Accurate BX2-500 vs BX2-600N vs BX2-600?
I will be getting one of these reels soon.
I will be surf casting, so the smaller ones will give a little more distance.
I will be fishing for big rays 150+ and tuna so the extra line capacity and drag will help also.
I will pair the reel with a Shimano Tiralejo 12' rod 30-80 lb rating for the surf and a 6' All Star 50-80 lb for the offshore fishing.
Right now I am leaning on the 600N because it still has really good line capacity and a little extra drag over the 500.
Any tips or recomendations?
Thanks
I own both of these reels have been very happy with them. I am going to assume you will be fishing 40or 50lb mono. So in the case i would go with a BX2 600. You are going to want the extra capacity, and with a little practice and fine tuning of the cast control you will be able to sling baits far. For boat fishing this is the perfect all around reel. great for bottom fishing and if you hook into something big the 2 speed may come in handy for you.. Hope this helps..

I was actually probably going to run 80 lb braid with a 50-60 lb mono top shot on it
Any cons with either of them?
Thanks

Either way, mono or braid, I would still go with a 600. However, depending on how long your topshot is. You are going to have an issue casting due to your braid to mono connection running through your guides., therefore you are going to greatly loose casting distance.. If your boat fishing this wont be an issue.
The only con do these reels, which doesn't really affect me, and may not affect you either is... When you do tighten your cast control to slow spool, you do increase the overall drag pressure. Not by much, however, this should not affect your fishing style..
I will bring up that to me it sounds like you want this reel for 2 styles of fishing. Like i said before, you will most likely have a casting issue if you try to run 60+lb mono for a topshot. So you may want to think about what style of fishing you will be doing more to best setup your reel.
Another option you can consider is running Hollowcore spectra, and run your topshot direct, giving you a knotless connection. Only issue would be if you plan to change your topshot often, a hollowcore connection is NOT quick and easy to complete correctly..
You can also run a hollowcore spectra loop to a mono wind-on leader of your desired length and mono lb. However, if you do not know how to make wind-on leaders yourself, you will have to have them made for you in advance. .. --- I happend to use this type of rigging on my 50w tuna reels. And also on my popping rod for tuna which is rigged with 80lb braid to a loop to loop wind-on mono connection..
just my .02 Hope this helps
