Why wire use thin wire leaders?

Why do every one use #19 single strand or thin multiple strand cable for leader, why not use 1/8" cable? Wouldn't it be just as detectable when wrapped with electrical tape? And as for how"sporting" it is the the main line is still just as weak as it would be with another leader.

This is just an idea I had, I have never tried it, nor do I have experience with larger sharks.

Thanks

#19 is pretty much the standard big shark single strand wire everywhere, it is small enough that it slips between the teeth on the big sharks but tough enough to hold up well. Most guys I know that use cable use 3/32 cable, often that is coated with nylon or pvc to 1/8", it is 920lb in most brands

Why not use 1/4" or 1/2" cable, nothing could cut through that and I have heard stories of GW chomping #19 wire like thread

tiger teeth will shred a cable. thats what they were designed to do just tear flesh. there is a pic on here of a cable leader that was tore up by teeth
