WHICH BRAID IS BEST???
Tarpon J: any tips for fist time use of braid?
Like monoxide said, you need to pack it on tight so it won't dig into itself. But I disagree with any need for mono underneath to keep braid from slipping. Not sure where I read this it was a while ago, maybe the cabbage key site..but when you tie your line to your spool just leave a tag end the length of the spool and lay it lengthwise along the spool and this will act like a cushion and you can spool up and not have to worry about line slippage.
Whatever brand spectra braid you choose I am sure you will be happy with it.
DO NOT CAST IN TO THE WIND!!!!! on lighter gear always use a sivvle and untwist your braid frequently .
I personally hate Powerpro, I fished it for several years and had a bunch of bad experiences with it. Recently a friend tipped me off to Momoi Diamond braid, and so far I'm sold. I've have had 0 problems yet while fishing it hard. It's rather expensive but well worth it IMO. I've probably saved the extra money anyways from not having to re-spool as often.
Powerpro regular is a 4 strand braid that has not changed since its inception. Now that shimano bought them their prices have gone up. Jerry brown (12 strands) is widely regarded as the best braid for the money on the market (cortland rated better but significantly more expensive).
