what is the best setup?

Hey guys im wondering what shark setups you are useing and what you think is the best all around for beach and briges. The old senators, the avet 80ws, or the tiagra 130s? What line to spool? And what rod is the best for both situations?

I am looking to buy a set up but I cant deside what is best. All help is appreciated.

I thought the penn senators would be a more reliable and more affordable reel and is known to last for a long time but i like the avet reels alot too. i might have to get both and see for my self what i like.

Personal favorite right now for any BIG fish is a AVET T-RX 50, loaded with 200lb JB and topped off with 75 yards of 200lb mono on a 150+lb 5'8" Super Seeker XXXXH It has the right capacity, MONSTER drag and very smooth during battles with Jiants. The SS works great with the max lifting I can use and handles surface run drags in the triple didgits just fine. love it!

It all depends on You its a personal choice, ive owned big senators and tiagra 130s and i have had little avets (sx and hx) they all work but i wasnt a fan of the avets but other people love them as i said its all personal oppion. I have my 130 up forsale and plan on getting a big sentor after i sell it because they are economical on price and parts and last forever! Goodluck with your choice

I think I can now agree with you about penn senators being a better over all choice. Im gonna get myself a 16/0 with a 9ft rod. Worst that can happen is ill sell it for the same price. Anyone know the drag on a 16/0 & 10/0

My 3 "go to" shark reels are my International 30TW 60lb mono, the 12/0 with half 200lb Tuffline and topped with 350yds of 130lb mono, and the 14/0 with a ton of 100lb mono topped with 350yds of 130lb mono. Ive yet to be "bested" on my 12/0 an 8.5ft Bull being my largest to date and caught on the 12/0. Fished the International for almost ten years now and still love it, the Goliath pics were both caught on the International, 50lb test and second 60lb test. And the 14/0 is NEW, havent hooked my monster on it yet ;). Its all a matter of preference and the baits, spots, and kind of sharks you're hooking man.

It's just your preference I have a 12/0 spooled with 100lb bull buster mono , 14/0 and 16/0 with straight 200lb mono and have done well with those setups. I'm old school and have always loved the senators. Not ready to switch over to the lever drags as of yet.

id put my finnor 130 spooled with 200lb braid and 200 lb top shot up against any reel out there. it is a beast i have had 16, shimano 130, avets of every size. the finnor is by far the best big reel i have ever used it on a custom 130-200 gator deep drob blank made top be a shark rod and nothing else.

the top all around set up i have ever fished is the avet tr-x 50w spooled with 130 braid with 130 top shot. this set up will stomp out most fish in a hurry even very large fish. people on this fourm will tell you that it is usless to have 116lbs of drag but you have to think of it like this. you can have a 16 with 1000 yrds of 130 mono and get 45lbs of crappy spuratic drag with the reel maxed out and beat the hell out of ur self and lose a big fish and damage you setup or you can have the tr-x spooled with 1300 yrds of 130 braid and run the drag at 45lbs were the drag is smooth and not jerky and you are not over stressing your reel. i have owned my tr-x since the year they came out it has seen hunderds of fish and still gose strong it has never even been serviced. there are many members on this fourm that have seen it in action. please dont listen to these people and waist 600-1000 dollars on a senator.
