Tracking down Gatorglass blanks & some of there History

Everyone's been asking lately and I'm here to help out so go to to http://www.mudhole.com and you can find 2 different gator glass or (Gatorglass style)blanks for sale there (or call them). If they don't have the the two below they usually stock a 12 foot thick walled surf blank you can cut down to 10 or 10 1/2 foot and use for shark fishing,The tip will be about a 26 Tip at 10 foot and you can put 80 to 130 pound test on it.I let Aaron 941sharker have one last year and he has it on his 14/0 and it's worked great for him .Pm him and he'll tell ya!

There were 2 of them, from Gator (Glass) Blanks, both 10 foot:
1. "SHARK" 80-130 lb., tip 26, XX Hvy-Slow $109.02
2. "UNLTD Shark" 80-Unlimited, tip 28, XXX Hvy- Slow $181.69

The orioginal Gator glass warehouse closed down close to 10 years ago it was in Hialeah Florida and the old man's name was Gus (nice old cuban guy)last time I saw him before he passed away I bought 3 -10 foot unlimited class Gator glass blanks .One I had built by Bill's rods in Miami for my 16/0 (I still use it) one I sold to my cousin and one I still have along with some Lamiglass surfcasting blanks that I have .I also have the Mike Palmer designed 32 tip monster 10 foot Shark blank from when he worked at BlackFin rods,,,,,,,that thing is powerful but very heavy and you better weigh at least 200 pounds and pump Iron to handle it or it will handle you.

From what I know by talking to people in the rod building industry over the years when Gus died the Gator glass mandrils were sold to Chaos rods who sold them to another company(not sure who maybe Crowder rods) when they went out of business last year (2009).Three months ago Nov-09 I was in XGeneration rods in Broward county and they still had some gatorglass blanks. They also had a 9 or 10 foot blank they sell to the folks who gig frogs in the Everglades and it looked very nice for 130 lb test. Here's a list of places where you might be able to still track down some Gatorglass blanks for shark fishing.
1)Mudhole.com
2)XGeneration rods
3)Black FiN rods (Stuart Fl) builds a 10 foot black monster but it's heavy
4)T and R bait and Tackle (Ft Laud)
5)Biscayne Rods (Miami)
6)Bill Boyd's bait and tackle (Ft Laud)
7)Star rods
Good Luck and I will keep you posted if I find out any other sources that could have the famous Gator glass blanks to to help you folks get ready for 2010's shark fishing.

Ps: One last bit of advice on a classic shark fishing blank the Harrington.Try Googleing "Harrington rods" I believe someone bought the company and was starting production in Oregon or some other state in 2010,,,,,don't have any more details.

What color are the 10 foot Seeker blanks? What tip size? What lb test are they rated for?Are they made in Florida ?How thick are the walls at the butt? Are they a smooth finish like Harrington or is the spiral finish visible?

will...the blanks are black, the tip is a 32 the butt is 1.17, they are made in Florida....i think, the walls are not that thick but it will never brake unless u do something stupid and yea its smoothed finished its not like a its kinda like a 555 but i think it my be more like the 575 Harrington Rene fished the rods is a monster i think it 130-unlimied and the spirial finish is not visiable. the rod is finished and i started bowing up on it in my drive way its a monster.

Not sure on the rating (probably 50 lb to 60lb) when you cut them down to 10 ft plus they are pretty beefy.A friend of ours Capt Kevin Pagan went to Mudhole and came back with 4 of those blanks .I bought one for $80.Everyone that got one cut them down and has 12/0 s to 16/0 s on them. Not as thick walled as the Gatorglass are but they've held up well so far.

My buddy has the IGA 50 Class 10ft Gator and we cut it down a foot and put a 12/0 on it. Its a double wall i think, but its almost as good as the tripple wall but wouldn't put a bigger reel on it. It has a 18 tip on it.
