top of the line reels in the market questions
i am looking to buy the best of the best at this point just one. but im running into some huge dilemmas. which one to buy? ive looked at the atd 130 tiagra 130 duel 12/w the everol and penn international. can someone steer me in the right direction. dont get me wrong i love the accurate but is it really better than the tiagra for an extra grand.
Depends what u want for reliable 130 id go with everol or duel both barely ever need to be serviced and both have strong drag now everol doesn't make a 130 but a 14/0 everol or the 18/0 ypu can't really do any better I mean I want Everol personally cuz I know people who have ones from the 60's that work great and they only need servicing every like 10 years lol everol 18/0 is the biggest and.best in my opinion and with that reel you can drop live 6ft blacktips all day and never worry about being spooled but it's up to u if I had the money id go everol plus they have the drag numbers on the leverdrag so u know how much drag your using at all times there's no guess work
and i think youll have a geat advantage with the two speed because when that shark has got you bowed up and isnt letting you gain an inch and its getting hard to lean back with the rod, you can definitely gain line faster with the slow speed rather than grabbing the line with your hands and reeling in.

If you want a 130 class reel and want the best of the best check out Alutecnos - they just dont get any better than that.
I personally prefer the smallest reels with the highest drag power in they class. When you get 50w's with a true 50lb drag AT FULL, it makes me wonder, why go bigger? I mean, at half spool that reel will easy hit +80lb drag - its hard to imagine someone holding a rod (if the rod won't snap in half) at that much pressure. Based on my past experience when i hooked an 8-9ft hammer at a TRUE (digitally measured) 50lb drag, the fish run once 150yds. To note, i was using the railing, otherwise i wouldn't seen myself holding the rod at that pressure. Also, more speed that fish has, much higher the drag it gets, so when we talk about 50lb drag, that's usually at small speeds, measured by hand pulling the scale, an angry shark attempting to run at much higher speed, will create way more drag then initially measured. This is also the reason why the STANDARD recommendation is NOT to go over the %33 drag power, from the reel's spooled line capacity, otherwise an broken line could be imminent.
Avet's do the job well, although i use reels that everyone thinks that are junk, which is Okuma Cavalla series, but i tuned the heck out of them so they serve me well.
top of the line reels to me are just saying "hey i have money and want to look like i know what i am doing." just because you have a big reel and you spent 2 grand on it doesnt mean it will catch a bigger or badder fish then say a 300 dollar senator. just stick with avets they are a good price and great reels. or even a 16/0 if you want a classic bad ass reel.
I've had my share at just about all the big reels, everything but the big accurate. The aletecnos is smooth as hell and has a really good 2 speed... on the slower side. They have resistance but deal horribly with sand and heavy salt spray. Avets have yet to make the size reel your looking for. Like stevensj said, the everol and the duel are top knotch. (seems to be all the italian reels) Everol has insane drag just as duel does, with the 18/0 everol you can spool it with straight 1000lbs mono if you want lol, good luck to you though... the duel 12/0 wide has about the same if not a little more capacity than a 14/0 senator. I don't know about the sand and salt specs on everols but the duel has many sealed parts that help against salt and sand and that reel can be (and ive seen) dropped pretty bad and still work great. It has a speed-up clicker (for marlin) so you'll hear a screaming run better than a slow run while the everol has a steady clicker. Internationals push heavy drag and 2-speed capability as well, but they are seemingly heavy... fin-nor also made similar reels.
Just an average fisherman.
The reason WHY 130's are usually heavy is because they were never been designed to be used as an HOLDING REEL - they are designed to stay in the boat's rod-holder while fighting the fish. 130's are over 15lb weight - fully spooled - adding the rod, just makes the fight much harder.
A smaller reel with +50lb drag on it - is WAY better then a 130. You get more endurance. There is a reason why Senators are so popular in the shark fishing comunity - they are well balanced - weight/size.
i noticed nobody said anything about shimano tiagra 130. any particular thing against them? and i know what your saying about smaller reels ive owned an avet50w trx and 80w and i truly loved them but its just someting i want to buy. and i realize the biggest reel wont neccesarily get you the bigger shark but id rather be fighting a world record on a 130 everol, duel, tiagra than the guy next to me that has a 30w or a 50w the bigger the reel the heavier the line the more line capacity all that increases some chances of not losing that fish.
If u want a tru top notch reel that's leverdrag and can handle sand go with everol if you get the 14/0 or 18/0 your not getting spooled ever lol those are tge reels where you put hundred lb baits on and don't worry bout shit lol really heacy drag and massive line capacity and idk bour the others but my friend has an everol and beach fishes a lot and never had a problem he has a red side one from the 70s and hasn't had it sent in since 2001 and the reel works amazing still. Everols are proven tough reels and are lipke the original leverdrags plus that gold is real perrty like lol
I've owned everols, duels, alutecnos, tiagras, accurate ATDs, and avets.
If you want top of the line, go with the accurate ATD or Duels. They are simply the best. IMO the accurate has the best internals of any reel on the market, and the Duel is the most impermeable...it really is a tank and is awesome for the beach. My personal shark reels are Duels and I love them.
Alutecnos, avets, everols, etc are all a tier below. Sorry but they just do not match to the Accurate/Duel in terms of design, construction, and function.
Don't forget to, afford well the reel that you buy, in case that someone decide to put some legs on it. Do not spend money on reels that you can not afford to lose. Period!!!
P.S. Unfortunately we are all living in a world where things like this, out there in the open, can't be ignored, since is not a matter of if, will happen to you, its a matter of when. So far i caught two guys at two different occasions trying to steal my stuff - i'm well aware that, at one point, some of these sticky hands bastards - will succeed, i just don't know when and where. My ultimate approach against them is to use something that can be affordable for purchase - again.
imo the duel 12/0w no question-weighs less than the rest, has a revolutionary low gear and as stated is bulletproof.. now on another note check out how well cj did with the avet 50w.. seems like one (or in this case 3 for the $ your spending) along with a properly fitted harness could stop 99% of the sharks out there

Your right, a fully spooled duel 12/0 wide weighs less or about the same as my fully spooled 12/0 senator
