Thoughts on my harness?

I've been trying to make a homemade shoulder harness for fishing off the beach because having a 14/0 on an 8 and 1/2 foot rod is very tiring trying to manage the set up and a potential fish pulling drag. So I got a bit creative with the seat for my kayak as I saw that it had the clips that would fit the harness lugs on my 14/0 and the back was padded bc it was intended to be used as a seat! So I adjusted the straps to fit around my back to the harness lugs so that I wouldn't have to buy an Aftco Maxforce. I know I'm standing in the pics but I was messing around to see how it felt, I plan on sitting in the sand with my rod leaning on a cooler while having the shoulder strap.
Thoughts?

Something I've been thinking about with my own kayak back rest... Glad to know it works! Great innovation ;)

Looks like you did a great job, but I feel there are 2 things you need to spend $$ on. A good/safe kayak and harness. You can really take some physical abuse if you have a bad kayak and flip/get hurt and the same issue if the harness breaks. You can save yourself a lot of energy if you have a a good harness and put some heat on the fish.

Thanks for the concern, I have a Perception Sport Caster 12.5 Angler Kayak as my kayak, so I'll be fairly safe out in the surf. Once I get enough $$$ to add either a 50W or 80W to my arsenal, then I'll get an actual harness because I know I have to get a good harness to stay safe, I only made this because handling a long rod on the beach kills my arms and back, so this little innovation will just help me out.

Cool harness!

Food for thought: That 8'6" rod is giving the fish a little more leverage if you are in stand up mode. IF you like to stand, think about a 7' or 7"6" rod at the tallest.

Thanks man, I actually don't plan on fighting this set up standing, I just wanted to get a feel for it on my back. I'm going to be sticking the butt in the sand and fighting from the sand.
