Thimbles for leader connections - Anyone use them?

Are thimbles worth using or just a waste of money and more unnecessary metal on the leader to put off the fish? I've never used them and had no problems, but I've not landed anything over 8 feet so maybe haven't tested my leaders to the limit.

Does anyone recommend them?

I use them on my mono or cable rub leader. Don't know if they are necessary, but it allows the mono more freedom around swivels.

i make loops in my mono or cable by doubling up the mono or cable makes a nice loop for the swivel to slide around. ill post a pic when i take one.

I use them, but i also double up the 500lb mono and crimp the tag ends. Either way, between a double loop and thimbles i haven't seen any differences, unless you use tuna type swivels where heavy mono will no go through the eye twice and a thimbles is needed.
