taping the spool

I've noticed a few people have said they put a little mono under there braid to keep it from spinning on the spool. I have always used a few wraps of electrical tape on the spool on my spinning reels when using the smaller braids and it works great and is cheap.Has anyone tried this with a bigger reel and bigger line. Is spinning even a real issue? Thanks

I did the same thing when I respooled my spinfisher 9500SS. When I took off the old braid, there was some mono under the braid. I hit it with a wrap of electrical tape.

I have had braid spin on the spool before on a smaller spinning reel. Quantum and Penn have the "Braid ready" spools now with the little rubber ring in the center of the spool so there must be something to it.

yes spinning is a real issue. get water down in there and braid will slip on the spool all day giving you about 2lbs of resistance.

the bigger reels, like 30's, 50W and 80W have hitches for the line. it wont slip.
