Hi guys just getting into the land based shark fishing and looking to purchase some
Gear. I have been looking at the senator 6/0 and 9/0 I would be spooling
Them with 80 pound braid with a top shot of mono. Just wondering what the line cap differences is between the 2 and is there a drag difference? Also what's the deal with the new reels compared to the old style. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The drag system is the same. I believe a 9/0 is just a wider 6/0.

I recommend staying away from the newer Chinese senators. You can find the good ole american ones on craigslist and eBay.

You can check the specs on line capacities at this website.

a 9/0 is not a wider 6/0. the side plates are different sizes. the newer senators work just the same but the newer black spool senators have less line capacity then the older reels. both are very easy to service as well. if you have the cash to get a 9/0 dont settle for a 6/0. it's always good to have more line capability. the drags are virtually the same and you can get many upgrades on the drags for both reels.
