What butt length is recommend for a beach shark rod with a 12/0, Brute Buster Belt with a harness? What is considered the norm?

Personally I like a butt that you can use in a gimble but one that you can stick in the sand if need to.That being said the butt of the rod can not be too long;about 15-20 inches is what I consider almost perfect for both purposes.Depending on the size of the fisherman you may want to go with a longer butt if you are 6 foot 6 inches , weigh 325 lbs and have thighs like tree trunks. When you're on a beach fighting a fish standing up with a gimble and a harness you might at the end of the fight want to sit in the sand and lean back to put some additional pressure on your fish when your buddies are trying to leader it and tail rope it in the wash.I don't care how good your equipment is A big shark(300 lbs or bigger) with tight drag pressure on your reel can pull you towards the wash as it tries to swim away when your buddies are trying to leader the fish but if you are sitting in the sand, rod butt in the sand your drag might slip as you bend the rod to hold the shark in place but you will stay put. If your rod butt is too long and you have your harness and gimble on you will find it difficult to wind your reel handle if it's too high .The reel should lay in front of your stomach or slightly lower when you're strapped in to your harness. When you're using the gimble and harness the advantage is you can bend your legs and rock back and forth as you bend the rod ,turn the reel handle, and gain line.At the end of the battle sit your arse down ,bend that rod like it was intended to be bent and let your buddies work the Monster in the wash.

I use a long butt. From the center of the reel seat mine are 26". With a long butt ya ant as bad to get hit in the wrong spot. Ya don't need a fighting belt any more either nor do ya need a rod holder. It's acqward at first until the fight is on.

Top secret info, But I can't help you I don't use a harness... people in my area call it "Palm Beach Style."
I make all mine 3ft and just shove it in the sand like a rod spike.
