Rod braces or no rod braces???
New to the forum, open minded and eager to learn from you guys and hopefully pass on what little I might know.
I have always used the rod braces in the past, but the reels I just got are missing the front and rear braces (14/0's )
I'm thinking that a 12/0 which has a lower point of leverage than the 14/0 can probably get away just fine without the stock front braces, specially with 100 lb. test .
But the taller 14/0 with 130lb. test might not do so well, I was told I could bend the reel's rod seat, specially with full drag on 130lb?
It kind of makes sense, what's your experience? ![]()

Team Old School bend their reel stand on catching a 700lb hammer on a 12/0 without the harnesses, yep $20.00 is better than spending more on a stand or worse still losing a catch of a lifetime! ![]()
