ok i just got a old school penn 4/0 on a penn senitor rod for 70 bucks. do you think that was a good deal? and i am looking at a few 9/0s one guy has one he will sell for 200 with a new penn 9/0 and star rod and the others are just random rods for like 175 to 200. wat one would you go for?
Don't buy the new Penn 9/0's, get the old chrome spool version.......2 reasons, holds more line and made in USA, the new ones are made in China.When you go to the Penn website, they even let you know, the internationals and new penn metal senators are made in the USA but nothing is mentioned about the senators made here! A friend of mine knows someone who bought two new 9/0's and has problems with them already after 1 or 2 trips!Hope this helps.

depends what you're going for
the 4/0 is gonna be king fish and the 9/0 is gonna be a sharkin rod.

That should be fine, you can even use the 4/0 for smaller sharks. I use a 4/0 for blacktips on the beaches

9/0 came with a star rod as well?
this one is a penn rod. the one on the star was a really new one and i heard the new ones arent good
