Intern. vs Tiagra

I am researching purchasing some heavier reels, and at first was decided on Penn Internationals, however after speaking with a reel repair expert, a local charter captain, and a rod builder who all recommended Shimano Tiagras over the Internationals. Any opinions about the two? Are the Internationals just as good as the Tiagras? Or do you some of you think the Tiagra is in fact a better product. Just trying to get the best gear for my money that will last and work the best. I am looking at 50lb class gear, maybe the 70vs in the International line.

Penn Internationals are built to be very simple. very mechanical. They have been around forever. Shimano Tiagras are great reels bit more complex (which only matters to the reel builder) but do the job. Shimano is overall more expensive. I believe I did look at the drag capacities of both and the internationals have a bit more. If your on a budget, go for an international 2 speed, you cant go wrong with that. Economy wise, internationals will get you your money back if you ever have to sell for x reason as long as the reel is in the same condition when you got it (assuming you take care of your gear).
