I am going to purchase a 5' 6" Calstar IGFA 80-class blank. I decided to build it myself. I would love to know the recommended guide size/spacing for this rod with a 14" butt, 5.75" reel seat, and 6" foregrip. I am plannig on using Pac Bay foulproof guides, and a Aftco roller tip. Let me know!

I reccomend, after determining the spine of the rod, mount all the components on the rod temporarly, that you are going to use. With the guides mounted with rubber bands or tape, place a load on the rod to determine the best mounting locations. I have not used the foul proof guides, but, with a 80 class rod, you will probably need the biggest they make for the one closest to the reel seat and then step down in size from there to the tip. I would think 5 or 6 guides plus the tip should do it with a rod of that length, but depends on the flex of the rod. You want a smooth flow of line without any drastic angle changes. Hope that helped. Let me know if I can help anymore.
