I have noticed that some hook models have been discontinued in the last few years and many of the big sizes, like 14/0 and up are not available in many models anymore. For guys who are using the big J hooks what model and sizes are you using and where are you buying them at? There are many models and sizes that I have been on endless searches for and many of them I have only found on Australia websites. They cost much more then they did here and with shipping makes ordering them out of the question. It appears that Mustad marketed the big hooks there much longer then over here.
I use VMC brand "Southern Tuna 2", Welded eye, Tinned finish, Ref# 8709. 12/0s and 14/0s. I dont know if they make bigger but I havent used bigger in years. These things are very strong and very sharp straight off the shelf, I pay $8.95 for two but I dont like to skimp on hooks anymore, Ive bent up, broken, opened too many eyes etc to screw around anymore. I have never bent one, broken one, the eyes are welded shut so opening an eye is outta the question now, etc. Never had a problem of any kind with them. I also have some 16/0 or 18/0 sea demons or something? But havent used them, they look to me like I should make a gaff outta them 
I used to use some "long shank" looking mustads in 16/0 but those were the ones I used to bend out, or break, or open eyes etc. Maybe it was the 200lb Braid but I cant bend the VMC's for the life of me! Ive tried! Nor can I break my 200lb Toughline! I get dragged around though I buy my VMC's from my local tackle shop on Mad beach (FL) Ricks Rods and Componenents. Capt Harry's has some BIG HOOKS in their catalog too, I think they have sea demons right now, not sure about sizes though. Im sure they have a website though. Been wanting to try a big circle or two but Im unsure about which one to try, I just stick with what I know so far. The gaps all just seem too small for me. I like my hooks to bite em back.
i use pretty much only 12o mustad j hooks with welded eyes
I really like the welded eyes, especially since Ive gone to singlestrand wire 400lb. Unless Im shooting for the lil guys, then Im not picky.
